The sea in all its forms has long been the focus of my work, be it a wave breaking on a sandy beach or the curling bow wave of a beautiful yacht. I’m drawn to the interplay of light on the constantly moving and changing surface of the sea.
My paintings endeavour to capture the ephemeral beauty of a moment and transport the viewer to a special moment in time.
I was born in Lancashire and worked for 15 years in the Aircraft industry. During this time I taught myself to paint with a focus on marine subjects. In 1995 my need to be close to the sea drew me south to Cowes, the historic home of yachting on the Isle of Wight, where I have since worked as a professional Marine Artist.
In my work I endeavour to use abstract shapes and marks to create an impression of realism when my work is viewed from a distance. I call my style “Abstract Realism” this technique I hope invites the viewer into the creative process of the painting.
